The department

The Creators, Makers and Innovators team is made up of leading advisers for creative, innovative and brand-focused businesses, offering a deep understanding of the industry sectors in which clients operate combined with real expertise across a wide range of legal services.

The team’s lawyers have decades of experience both within the creative industries and as legal advisers with in depth knowledge and experience of the many sectors that make up the creative world, including advertising and marketing, entertainment and media, fashion, hospitality, technology, retail and sports.

The team

We have a substantial IP practice within CMI comprised of over 50 lawyers, trade mark attorneys, patent attorneys and specialist support staff practising in this area. We are recognised in Chambers, Legal 500 and WTR for a number of IP related fields including trade mark and patent filing and prosecution, IP litigation, advertising, brand management, sport and media and entertainment. 

Our IP prosecution client base is varied; from global brand owners to start ups, however, much work is focussed on the following sectors: advertising/marketing, retail, fashion, entertainment, technology automotive and sports.

The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Paralegal to join our busy team. They will provide support on matters for the IP Legal Practice Group by assisting partners, attorneys, associates and the wider team as requested on a day to day basis.

The role would suit an experienced paralegal who would like to continue to develop their career as a paralegal.  Strong analytical capabilities and the confidence to shoulder responsibility for their own matters and deal directly with clients is essential. They will work alongside a team of IP lawyers, patent attorneys, trade mark attorneys and specialist support staff servicing the contentious and non-contentious IP needs of a wide array of household name clients.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in an involved team environment.  They must be highly organised and have a flexible nature, and a co-operative and willing attitude. Prior IP litigation experience, whether in-house or private practice, is required for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Legal and non-legal research
  • Supporting the domain name management service (liaising with domain name partner and clients)
  • Trade mark watching and monitoring support
  • Supporting on business development initiatives
  • Maintaining databases
  • Generally assisting secretaries, associates and partners as requested

Educational and professional qualifications required

Educated to degree level or equivalent. Law related degree would be advantageous.
