The team:

Marrons Planning are a nationally growing team of town planning consultants providing high quality advice and guidance on a wide range of planning and development issues.

We advise on planning matters of all types and scales from leading and co-ordinating large and complex development proposals, to dealing with small scale and householder developments.  We act on behalf of major house builders and developers, manufacturers and investment companies, blue chip companies and land promoters, in addition to land and property owners, retailers, local authorities and private individuals across the United Kingdom. 

We co-ordinate, project manage and audit planning applications, including EIA development, urban regeneration schemes, urban extensions, site allocation and promotions and strategic planning, housing land supply advice and commercial/retail planning expertise.  We provide expert advice and guidance to our clients throughout all stages of the planning process and have considerable experience and knowledge of negotiating with local planning authorities, resolving issues, and delivering planning permissions.

Marrons Planning is part of law firm Shakespeare Martineau. We are part of a large multi-disciplinary team which comprises lawyers, surveyors and chartered town planners.  As part of Shakespeare Martineau, you will also have access to high quality training and support for the key business skills you need to progress your career in planning consultancy. We support and fund membership of the RTPI for our team.

This role is currently home-based.  Going forward, it will be predominantly home based with travel once or twice a week, as required, to any of our office hub locations.

The role:

In light of the significant amount of strategic land work we are currently involved with as a firm, we have a new opportunity for an experienced Urban Designer / Masterplanner to take on an urban design-based role for multi-disciplinary projects, principally, if not exclusively, for large mixed-use, residential-led strategic sites, either for development plan promotion or application.

We can offer you the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including delivering major mixed-use urban extensions across the UK.  You will be working with national house builders, land promoters, and landowners. 

Key duties will include:

  • working alongside our planning team and other third-party consultants to produce constraints-led yet commercially appealing layouts for residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes
  • providing urban design support to our planning team in the production of Promotion Documents, Services and Facilities Plans, Constraints and Opportunities Plans, Design and Access Statements, Site Location Plans etc
  • working directly with clients, landowners, technical consultants, planning officers etc
  • working and collaborating closely with a team of experienced Planners to provide a high quality service to our clients
  • negotiating with officers, members and public in respect of housing proposals
  • handling enquiries efficiently and working to strict deadlines
  • actively seeking opportunities for business development in the team, as well as internally and externally growing your own network, with a view to growing the urban design / masterplanning offering of the firm

Skills and experience you will have:

  • at least 6 years’ demonstrable experience as an Urban Designer / Masterplanner in a similar role, ideally in a private practice, and good relationships with the house-builder/land promoter industry
  • a relevant Planning qualification urban design, masterplanning orTown Planning
  • a sound and demonstrable knowledge of the planning system and plan promotion
  • proficiency in Microsoft and drawing based packages
  • own car and full UK driving license
  • demonstrable experience in business development and generation of new work within the industry
