Meet the team:

Knowledge Management (KM) is one of the main pillars of our Managed Legal Services (MLS) offering. The flow of knowledge, into, within, and out of the firm, and the embedding of critical knowledge into the firm, is a process that is essential to the growth and development of Shakespeare Martineau. The KM team facilitate collaboration, sharing and networking throughout the firm to improve the flow of knowledge, whether that is technical legal information about cases, legislation and regulation; client information for cross-selling; or experiences and top tips.

As we thrive to become one of the most admired top 30 law firm by 2025 we have an exciting opportunity for a Knowledge Management Assistant to join our Managed Legal Services Team.

The role will sit within our newly created Knowledge Management team. As part of the team you will help create, share and leverage our knowledge in the most effective way to meet client and business needs across the firm.

Your key duties will be:

  • supporting a broad range of knowledge management work, current awareness activity, and providing research support to the knowledge management team, our people, and other business services functions. This will include:
  • managing and developing Knowhow, its reuse and exploitation through precedents, practice notes, training and knowledge packs;
  • undertaking legal and business intelligence research to provide support with client matters and business development activities. This service will include Horizon Scanning ensuring our legal teams are up to date with the latest developments, trends and other changes in their focus specialisms and specific clients;
  • providing provision and support with knowledge-based client marketing (newsletters, seminars, social media), so that the minimum amount of non-chargeable time is spent for the maximum return
  • raising awareness of knowledge management resources and providing training to ensure resources and systems are used efficiently and productively
  • managing and evaluating the available research resources and databases to include archiving, password management and general knowledge management housekeeping duties
  • helping to promote the knowledge management service to the wider firm
  • keeping up-to-date with best practice and emerging trends in knowledge management

Skills and experience you will have:

The candidate should have an interest in developing a career in knowledge management within the legal information sector. Full training will be provided to develop skills.  The following are desirable but not essential:

  • experience working in a similar knowledge management or information services role
  • research skills and experience working with legal electronic databases
  • strong communication skills
  • confidence working with IT and the ability to learn new IT systems
  • experience in the provision of training

  • to be self-initiating and take a pro-active approach towards projects; seek direction and advice as needed but also prepared to take ownership and progress tasks independently

  • confidence to works within virtual team setting

We have hubs in Birmingham, Leicester, London, Lincoln, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon and Sheffield. This role will have a blend of home and office working within our Birmingham or another West Midlands hub.
