Rachel Gwynne heads up our Social Housing team. In this team you get the best of both worlds, working closely with a smaller team whilst having the support of a large and dynamic social wider housing team. We are looking for a Solicitor with up to around 2 years’ experience to join us and help to develop one of our a key focus areas.
There will be plenty of opportunity to support the delivery of strategic projects and the role not only offers a chance to develop technical and legal skills but also provides the opportunity to gain experience in business development as well as offering direct exposure to clients.
Your key duties will be:
- working alongside our sector lead to deliver corporate transactional and governance work to our not-for-profit clients
- to work as part of a team of specialist lawyers to help deliver commercial outcomes for our clients
- assisting with advising on constitutional changes, establishing new corporate entities and advising on governance matters including director and trustee duties and responsibilities, company and charity law compliance and governance best practice
- supporting the delivery of strategic projects including mergers and acquisitions, charitable registrations and conversions, group restructures and collaborative working arrangements, drafting and negotiating documents, managing regulatory requirements and preparing ancillary documentation.
- assisting on large complex deals with appropriate supervision and also building up your own caseload of straightforward matters
What we’re looking for:
- up to 2 years’ previous experience advising on company law matters, incorporations and director/trustee duties and responsibilities (for Newly Qualified candidates, relevant experience gained during your training contract is essential)
- ideally you will have a corporate governance background and experience in direct charity law would be perfect
- we are open to someone coming from an in-house environment, such as providing legal in-house counsel for charities
- the ability to deal with numerous complex issues on tight timescales
- strong legal analysis and drafting skills
- the ability to work to tight deadlines and manage own time efficiently
- an interest in advising the not-for-profit sector and ideally some experience in advising charities
- a strong team player with excellent communication skills
- someone with a desire to enhance client relationships through day-to-day activity, keen to get involved in strategic business development

We have hubs in Birmingham, Leicester, London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon and Sheffield. This role can be predominantly home based with travel as required into any of our office hubs. We don’t mind where you are based as long as you are happy to travel to Stratford-upon-Avon or Birmingham or to clients as and when needed.
