The opportunity

This is a varied and interesting role with great quality work in a fast moving and successful team environment.

As Litigation Legal Assistant you’ll provide fee earning support to our partners and the wider team to help deliver great service to our clients. What’s more – we will help you progress towards running your own caseload under supervision.

Your key duties will be:

  • working closely with partners to provide excellent client service
  • having regular contact with clients
  • assisting on all aspects of managing a caseload (under direction and supervision)
  • maintaining and updating client tracker status reports
  • assisting with Court bundles and collating instructions to Counsel
  • managing production of monthly invoices on matters across the team and sending invoices out to clients
  • providing a mix of paralegal and administrative support to the team
  • opening and closing files and conducting conflict searches
  • archiving closed matters and generally liaising with central support teams on that
  • helping with distribution of general correspondence and post coming into the team each day
  • handling telephone calls, and handling queries and enquiries where appropriate
  • producing forms and documentation including recovering expenses from our finance team
  • drafting documents as and when required

What we’re looking for:

  • a minimum of 6 months’ recent experience in a similar role, experience with contentious work is desirable but not essential
  • some knowledge of the litigation process
  • experience of using a case management system
  • good academic qualifications
  • good attention to detail and accuracy
  • the ability to prioritise your workload effectively
  • strong IT skills
  • drive, enthusiasm, commitment and a team player approach

The team:

Our Real Estates Disputes specialists represent individuals, private and public companies, major corporate occupiers, high street retailers, shopping centres, clearing banks, universities and other public bodies in these areas. We advise on a wide range of disputes in relation to freehold or leasehold property, in particular advising on a large volume of business lease renewals for national chains.

The team handle disputes arising from the redevelopment of land including rights of light, party wall and boundary disputes. We advise our clients on commercial landlord and tenant disputes including service of break notices, forfeiture and notices to quit, and the recovery of property or unpaid rent and service charges. Our particular expertise lies with handling large scale trespass and squatter eviction claims, for example when there is a mass trespass or riot and allegations of breach of human rights.

We have hubs in Birmingham, Leicester, London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon, Lincoln, Sheffield and Glasgow. This role will be a mix of home-based working, with regular travel into the Birmingham office hub.
