Meet the team

Marrons Planning are a nationally growing team of town planning consultants, urban designers and masterplanners providing high quality advice and guidance on a wide range of planning, design and development issues.

We advise on planning matters of all types and scales from leading and co-ordinating large and complex development proposals, to dealing with small scale and householder developments.  We act on behalf of major house builders and developers, manufacturers and investment companies, blue chip companies and land promoters, land and property owners, retailers, local authorities, and private individuals across the United Kingdom.

We co-ordinate, project manage and prepare planning applications; including for EIA development, urban regeneration schemes, and urban extensions. We proactively support clients with promoting sites through the Development Plan process,, and provide housing land supply advice and commercial/retail planning expertise.  We provide expert advice and guidance to our clients throughout all stages of the planning process and have considerable experience and knowledge of negotiating with local planning authorities, resolving issues, and delivering planning permissions.

Marrons Planning is part of law firm Shakespeare Martineau. We are part of a large multi-disciplinary team which comprises lawyers, masterplanners, and chartered town planners.  As part of Shakespeare Martineau, you will also have access to high quality training and support for the key business skills you need to progress your career in urban design. We support and fund membership of the RTPI for our team

The opportunity

A fantastic opportunity for an Urban Designer is available in our expanding Design team, working alongside a team of experienced and skilled town planners and urban designers.  

We can offer you the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including delivering major mixed-use urban extensions across the UK.  You will be working with national house builders, land promoters, and landowners.

We have big growth plans and are looking for people with the enthusiasm to come and be part of this with us.

The key duties will be:

  • feasibility schemes to inform development potential of land and buildings
  • preparing planning application drawings
  • working with clients and other consultants to deliver development
  • masterplan drawings of sites
  • writing and presenting documents including design and access statements, design codes, etc

Skills and experience you will have:

  • relevant degree in Urban Design or similar relevant design qualification
  • previous experience in a planning and design role from either a local government, consultancy or a design-led practice environment

Key competencies you will need:

  • an understanding of the planning process and systems
  • good attention to detail and accuracy
  • excellent communication skills and a friendly approachable manner
  • ability to prioritise workload and manage time efficiently
  • drive, commitment, enthusiasm and a team player approach
  • proficiency in software including AutoCAD, Photoshop, Indesign, SketchUp preferable

We have hubs in Birmingham, Leicester, London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon and Sheffield. This role will be hybrid between home with travel as required into Birmingham or one of our other Midlands based hubs.
