Meet the team

To provide truly outstanding client service we work as one team.  Our Business Operations Group is made up of business professionals who work with our legal professionals to provide market leading expertise to our clients.  The Groups include; Finance, Operations, HR, Marketing, IT, Risk and the Executive Leadership team.

Our IT team is responsible for providing clients and staff with high quality relevant technology, customised systems and superior service and support to ensure our business needs are always met.

Based mainly in the Birmingham office but also with a presence in Nottingham the team is around 30 strong and includes talented architects, project managers, developers, engineers, analysts and service desk support people.

This is an ever changing and exciting area to work in as we constantly look for new and innovative ways to provide the most effective solutions to the business.

The opportunity

The role:

We are looking for an IT & Business Change Coordinator to proactively work within IT to support the function and PMO in delivering both IT and business change.

The role requires a broad set of skills and a high degree of flexibility and adaptability; the ability to administer and organise all types of activities, from simple tasks to more complex plans is key.

Your key duties will include:

  • coordinating project management activities, resources, equipment and information
  • supporting the PMO to liaise with internal clients to identify and define requirement, scope and objectives
  • assigning tasks to internal teams to assist with schedule management
  • understanding the firm’s IT strategy and the business strategy of the practice areas that the role supports; ensuring that the business change projects contribute to these strategies
  • ensuring internal clients’ needs are met as projects evolve
  • assisting in the preparation of budgets
  • analysing risks and opportunities during inception and throughout the project lifecycle, under the direction of the project lead and IT management team
  • monitoring project progress and handle any issues that may arise, escalating any concerns to the lead project manager or programme manager
  • acting as a point of contact and communicate project status to all necessary stakeholders
  • issuing all appropriate project paperwork (e.g. scope, documentation, RAID logs)
  • creating and maintaining comprehensive business change documentation, plans and reports
  • managing the day-to-day administration aspect of the projects including ensuring project documents are complete, current and stored 
  • acting as the liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams

Skills and experience you will have:

  • experience within the legal sector, consumer services industry and/or within IT is desirable but not essential
  • proven work experience as a project coordinator or similar role
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including stakeholders, executives, managers and subject matter experts
  • strong analytical skills and the ability to report effectively on data
  • experience in project management from conception to delivery
  • solid organisation skills, including multitasking and time management
  • strong client facing and teamwork skills
  • familiarity with risk management and quality assurance would be advantageous
  • strong oral, written and presentation skills
  • understanding of PRINCE2 methodology and ideally Agile DSDM methodology
  • strong MS Excel skills and an understanding of MS Project
  • deductive reasoning skills
  • AgilePM qualification (desirable)
  • PRINCE2 qualification (desirable)
  • ITIL qualification (desirable)

Key competencies you will have:

  • to be able to support more than one project at a time
  • an analytical approach to problem solving, combined with a creative flair and commercial awareness
  • an aptitude for solving unstructured problems and decision making
  • a proactive approach and ability to focus on key priorities for the business service and legal service teams
  • the ability to capture requirements via multiple means and to determine their appropriateness to given situation, e.g. workshops, interviews, IT skills etc.
  • the ability to pull data from various sources and to construct, reports and business cases that support solving business problems
  • an analytical mind-set and ability to see the big picture
  • flexibility and willingness to go beyond the job specification and the ability to take up ad hoc duties, as required
  • a knowledge of organisational behaviour
