Our Litigation & Dispute Resolution group has a long-standing experience of working with some of the most successful and influential businesses in the UK and also internationally. Our specialist teams combine expertise with a sound understanding of the commercial landscape to provide exceptional solutions for every aspect of our clients’ corporate requirements.

The Debt & Asset Finance team acts for major UK asset finance and leasing companies. We specialise in automotive and asset finance matters and have done so for many years through a changing economical environment. Our team aim to resolve disputes, recover debts and assets for automotive, asset finance and commercial clients by providing clear, pragmatic and commercial advice. We advise our clients with all matters relating to personal contract purchase, personal contract hire, hire purchase, conditional sale agreements, procurement, tender issues, sale, leaseback and master hire. Regarding regulatory services, we assist our clients with Financial Conduct Authority issues, Consumer Credit both contentious and non-contentious and Financial Ombudsman matters.

The opportunity

The role:

We are looking for a Legal Executive / NQ-2yr PQE Solicitor to join our Debt and Asset Finance team in Birmingham, part of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution group. 

You will  specialise in Aseet Finance matters, working with a team that acts for some well-known household names and develop bespoke industry-specific legal skills, and assisting partners and solicitors within the team with both contentious and non- contentious cases.  This is a real opportunity for development within the role.

You will also interact effectively with existing clients and support business development activities with potential clients.

Your key duties will be:

  • assisting the head of the team and, where necessary, other senior members to produce high quality legal services to clients on a broad range of asset finance work
  • handling a caseload of both contentious and non-contentious, complex and less-complex matters, which will consist of repeated instructions from institutional clients, as well as undertaking standalone instructions from a cohort of individual commercial clients
  • running cases efficiently and cost effectively and within strict service level agreements as required by the client
  • dealing with clients and third parties in a professional manner, maintaining close and regular contact, as required
  • assisting with monthly billing, all client specific billing and other related financial administration
  • carrying out legal research in relation to liability disputes, case law and technical areas of insurance law
  • maintaining good file management, including electronic and paper storage, archiving and filing
  • assisting and supervising more junior fee earners within the team
  • taking telephone calls, handling queries and enquiries, where appropriate
  • carrying out legal research as required
  • overseeing and managing the management information requirements for a key client
  • actively getting involved in business development activities, both individually and as part of a team

Skills and experience you will have:

  • a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role dealing with asset finance matters (for Newly Qualified candidates, relevant experience gained during your training contract is essential); preferably dealing with contentious matters
  • previous experience in drafting documentation for sending letters before action, and dealing with negotiations on disputed cases
  • previous experience in drafting and issuing claim forms and particulars of claim, and handling the case during the Court process through to Judgment and enforcement
  • confidence with IT skills, particular Microsoft Word and Excel
  • previous experience in using a case management system
  • some previous experience in managing or supervising others
  • some advocacy experience would be preferable
