The department

Skadden is renowned as a go-to firm for complex capital markets transactions, including those involving multiple jurisdictions, and we regularly receive recognition in the press for our innovative work.  Capital markets is one of our European group’s strongest practice areas.  We provide legal advice to corporate, governmental and investment banking clients on a variety of capital markets matters, including IPOs, rights offerings, high-yield financings, eurobond issues, offerings of regulatory capital and other hybrid securities, and other global equity and debt offerings.

We advise clients in nearly every country in the greater European region, in the CIS (with a particular focus on Russia), in the Middle East and in Africa, providing transactional and compliance advice in connection with offerings under the European Prospectus Regulation and US Rule 144A, as well as SEC registered securities offerings, and listings on the major European and US stock exchanges.  We have extensive experience representing issuers listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

The Role

We operate as a single fully integrated team of English and US lawyers, working hand in hand with the US securities law associates in the London office.  The capital markets associates work on a mix of equity capital markets (ECM) and debt capital markets (DCM) transactions.  The Capital Markets group is also part of the broader Corporate group, and accordingly the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on broader M&A and other corporate assignments, in particular in the public company space. We are looking for a UK qualified associate for this particular position

Person Specification

The new hire will join the Corporate group, focusing on Capital Markets.  We are looking for an individual with 2– 4 years' relevant UK post qualification experience in the London market, although those with less or more relevant experience will be considered on their merits.

The successful candidate will have trained at a top tier firm and ideally have completed at least one Capital Markets seat, and then joined an established Capital Markets practice on qualification.  Excellent written communication and drafting skills are also required as well as the ability to demonstrate initiative.  They must also possess the skills to take on a high degree of responsibility within a fast paced but friendly environment.  A first-class academic record is essential.

Remuneration

We pay generous rates and provide our lawyers with a highly competitive benefits package.  As of 2020, the package includes:

  • Discretionary year-end bonus
  • Technology allowance
  • 22 days holiday and 3 personal days
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity and parental leave
  • Private medical insurance
  • Permanent health insurance
  • Life assurance
  • Interest free season ticket loan
  • Gym allowance
Training and Development

The Skadden training programme has evolved over the years as the firm has grown and assists our lawyers in their development by providing them with the necessary skills to take on as much responsibility as they are ready for.  The programme includes

  • Regular meetings of the capital markets group to discuss developments and share know-how.
  • Weekly training seminars and workshops for all levels covering legal topics relevant to the firm's practice areas and skills.  These are presented by partners, associates, external specialists, QCs and other professionals.
  • Live video-links to seminars presented across Skadden's network of offices.

A number of pro bono opportunities are also available to our lawyers through our pro bono programme.  We are affiliated to a number of pro bono organisations, including LawWorks, that provide pro bono projects to the firm.
