The role

Our Business Development & Marketing team are looking for a Head of Business Development (BD) to manage our Firm's ambitious BD plans and team of BD Managers and Executives.

Duties & responsibilities are as follows:

  • Working with Partners, sector and practice heads to develop and implement Business Development and Key Account Management plans.
  • Acting as a coach and mentor to lawyers at all levels in respect of Business Development activity.
  • Working at a peer level with the Head of Marketing to coordinate marketing and Business Development activity.
  • Supervising the pitching process, ensuring that all supporting materials (presentations, brochures, capability statements, etc.) are kept up to date.
  • Identifying and advises on new business opportunities, delivering meaningful client, market and competitor analysis as required.
  • Assisting the partners, COO and senior management team in determining the Firm’s overall client strategy.
  • Leading the Firm’s Key Client Programme, including attending meetings with partners and clients.
  • Supporting the Firm’s client feedback program, including attendance at client interviews, where required.
  • Overseeing the maintenance and usage of the Firm’s CRM system for Business Development purposes, collaborating efficiently with the CRM team.
  • Developing and executing comprehensive campaigns prioritising, client meetings and revenue-generating pursuits as part of our continued brand building.
  • Pro-actively managing budget for Business Development activity/expenses.


Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will have the below skills and experience:

  • Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or equivalent; advanced (post graduate) degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar role in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience leading Business Development for a practice group, service line or industry group.
  • Experience working with partners/senior executives in a professional services firm.
  • Client account management skills.
  • Strong track record of revenue and client generation through effective Business Development initiatives and/or networking.
  • Previous proven experience of building and managing effective teams of at least two direct reports.
  • Experience developing business through a sector-led approach.
  • Proven track record targeting and promoting firm work within various sectors (Technology, M&A etc.).
  • Ability to perform market research, understand client needs, analyse trends.
  • Experience and understanding of pricing deals, allocating resources etc.
  • Vast experience preparing winning proposals and responses to formal RFPs and tenders.
