The firm

We are currently seeking a 0-3yr PQE solicitor to join our newly opened office in Southampton.

The team

The non-contentious work is wide ranging, acting for farmers, estates and agri-businesses.  The Agriculture team are ranked Number 1 in Chambers and Legal 500. Their clients include household name estates. The work may involve assisting partners and associates on bigger cases but the successful candidate will also be expected to run smaller cases under supervision. An agricultural background is not a pre-requisite however the successful candidate will be expected to work within the sector and build an affinity with and market to the rural community.

The role is based in South Hampshire, but the successful applicant should be willing to travel between all of the firm’s offices, to clients’ premises and to those of other parties when required.

The team has a strong culture for delegating responsibility and encouraging individuals to carve their own futures.


Client Services

  • To provide a first class service to Clients through effective handling of client files, under supervision as appropriate.  Deal with post, email and telephone calls using initiative and good planning skills to progress matters in a timely and effective fashion.
  • Provide expert advice to clients in accordance with technical area of specialism; liaising with clients, colleagues/Client Partner and any relevant professionals in accordance with the Thrings expected behaviours and values.


  • A team player, building strong working relationships with the direct team, the wider team and office teams.


  • Understand and achieve targets such as chargeable hours and time recording, ensuring accurate records are maintained for both chargeable and non chargeable time.

Business Development

  • Plan and engage in targeted business development activities to obtain new clients for own team, and for other teams within Thrings as appropriate.
Skills and experience

Qualified Solicitor

Experience and Knowledge

  • Property experience is essential, whether post qualification or within a training seat. An agricultural background would be of benefit but is not essential.
