The Department

Our Information Systems team is made up of many teams that work together to support Weightmans' information systems and infrastructure. The teams include: development; operations; project services; and support.

The role

Weightmans continues to develop innovative systems to improve the way our staff and our customers work each day. The aim is to improve the experience when using IT and also increase staff and customer productivity.

The team has recognised the need to grow in order to meet increased demand. The successful candidate must possess a good knowledge of the .NET platform and Microsoft Stack technologies, having used them in order to develop, maintain and support enterprise standard solutions both in a team and alone.

This role should be filled by a web developer with previous experience in a similar role. It is essential that the successful candidate be enthusiastic about the technologies being used and they possess a desire to learn how to use these appropriately in an enterprise environment.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To become part of the Business Solutions Team developing software components and maintaining existing systems as part of a team or on their own.
  • Follow standards and procedures to produce consistent measurable results.

  • Implement change and release management processes as part of the software development lifecycle.

  • Be proactive in identifying and resolving potential issues before they become incidents.

The person specification
  • Excellent knowledge of C#

  • Excellent knowledge of the .NET Framework

  • Excellent knowledge of SQL based databases

  • Good knowledge of Visual Studio 2013 or Visual Studio 2015

  • Knowledge of SQL Server 2008 – 2014 (T-SQL)

  • Knowledge of Team Foundation Server beneficial

  • Knowledge of standards for web development such as HTML5 & CSS3

  • Knowledge of AngularJS

  • Knowledge of JavaScript/JQuery

  • Knowledge of web service technologies such as SOAP/REST/WCF

  • Knowledge XML technologies (XML, XSD, XPath, XSLT)

  • Familiarity with Bootstrap & responsive design

  • Familiarity with an Agile methodology and test driven development

  • Good UI design skills beneficial

  • Ability to anticipate problems, identify risk, evaluate impact and produce appropriate solutions, or escalate as necessary

  • Excellent deadline and personal time management skills

  • Ability to rollout solutions that are well tested and meet the needs of the end users

  • Can work with other members of staff in a team project situation
