The Department

Our specialist Healthcare team covers all aspects of healthcare and related areas of law and practice, including child law, clinical negligence, clinical governance, consent to treatment, healthcare advisory and mental health. We provide a supportive, proactive service based on a deep understanding of NHS procedures and the social/political background of public healthcare. Our expert team includes doctors and nurses among other health professionals, all with specialist medical knowledge in key areas. 

The role

To manage own caseload of defendant clinical negligence claims and assist other case handlers with their caseloads of clinical negligence and personal injury cases.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage own caseload of clinical negligence claims on behalf of the NHS, primarily consisting of pre-action and fixed-fee work

  • Assist other case handlers with their cases

  • Perform general file management duties

  • Act upon incoming and produce outgoing documents such as letters, reports and emails

  • Liaise with claimants, solicitors, clients and other parties

  • Achieve set financial and chargeable hours targets

  • Work in accordance with Lexcel and other internal compliance procedures

  • Work in tune with Weightmans’ values

  • Complete MI as and when required

  • Adhere to client and firm data security requirements

  • Work in accordance with client protocols

  • Perform other general case handling duties as appropriate.

  • Previous defendant case handling experience

  • Excellent drafting and research skills

  • Ability to work to strict deadlines

  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative

  • Excellent IT skills
