Solicitor 0-7 PQE (Healthcare Inquests and Regulatory)

The Regulatory Department is very diverse, offering a broad range of expert advice to healthcare professionals facing possible criminal and professional regulatory sanctions, Trusts and organisations on issues such as best interest decisions to DPA requests and inquests, as well as organisations and individuals facing Health & Safety, criminal and other regulatory prosecutions.

The role will primarily focus on Healthcare inquest work and healthcare regulatory work.  We are seeking a lawyer to manage a caseload of inquest files for our various healthcare Trusts and organisations.   The candidate will also assist a Partner on his professional healthcare regulatory work, defending in regulatory proceedings brought by professional bodies. With our diverse offering, inevitably there will both the scope and need for our lawyers to be involved in work for clients outside of their core caseload

Main duties and responsibilities

• Manage a case load of healthcare inquest and healthcare regulatory files
• Advocacy skills are essential to attend hearings at court, including travel, and accompany counsel where necessary
• Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
• Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures and KPIs are adhered to
• Comply with relevant policies and procedures
• Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

Essential

• Qualified solicitor 0-7yr PQE
• Healthcare experience
• Inquest advocacy experience

Desirable

• Regulatory defence experience is desirable – healthcare or otherwise
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Excellent collaborative and team working skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent IT skills
• Ability to work to deadlines and targets
• Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
