The Department

Our Liverpool Litigation team is experienced in handling all kinds of commercial disputes. We act on behalf of large corporates, owner managed businesses, public bodies, insurers, professional practices, regulatory bodies and private individuals. Members of all levels of qualification across the team regularly deal with complex, high profile and sensitive issues across a broad range of litigation with far reaching implications. The team and many within it are recognised in both Chambers and Legal 500.

The role

We are recruiting for an experienced Paralegal to work within the Litigation Liverpool team. Supporting other fee earners undertaking various insolvency related work.

Main duties and responsibilities (subject to skills and experience) include:

  • Assist with preparation of statutory demands and winding up petitions
  • Assist with preparation of wider personal and corporate insolvency documents – including but not limited to drafting the appointment of fixed charge receivers, notices of intention to appoint and notice of appointment of administrators by QFCHs and Directors, drafting reports on the validity of the appointment of administrators and fixed charge receivers
  • General debt recovery
  • Conduct litigation including issuing claims and a range of insolvency applications and witness statements, obtaining judgments and enforcing judgments, and assisting with defended matters including drafting of witness statements for Insolvency Practitioners
  • Contact with client, as delegated
  • Complete MI procedures as required
  • Achieve set targets/KPIs
  • Ensure relevant deadlines, compliance and quality measures are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

  • Previous insolvency experience within a similar role
  • Motivated and highly-driven
  • Excellent IT and typing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Flexible approach
  • An experienced Paralegal
