The Department

The Regulatory Department is very diverse, offering a broad range of expert advice to healthcare professionals facing possible criminal and professional regulatory sanctions, Trusts and organisations on issues such as best interest decisions to DPA requests and inquests, as well as organisations and individuals facing Health & Safety, criminal and other regulatory prosecutions.

The role

We are recruiting for an experienced Paralegal to join our Regulatory team in Birmingham. To provide case handling and administrative support to the case handlers within the team.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Assist the case handlers and the wider practice with their caseloads of regulatory work
  • Respond promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and courts with and without supervision
  • Liaison with Court officials and experts
  • Perform case handling and administrative tasks such as opening and closing files, sorting incoming and outgoing mail, dealing with routine documentation etc.
  • Assist with the progression of files and updating clients
  • Assist with the compiling of marketing and business development literature
  • Complete MI procedures as and when required
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
  • Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures and KIPS are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

The person specification
  • Previous paralegal experience
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
  • Genuine and demonstrable interest in regulatory work, preferably with previous experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – empathic and professional due to sensitivities of work.
  • Ability to analysis and organise large amounts of information and documentation.
  • Excellent IT and typing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
