The Department

Our national Commercial team works with a wide range of clients both private and public. We provide a comprehensive range of commercial services encompassing commercial contracts, intellectual property, data protection, competition, procurement and state aid, and strategically supporting supply chain management. Our clients are in various sectors such as retail, transport and logistics, media, pharmaceutical, insurance and technology and, within the public sector, universities, police forces and local authorities. We advise on a variety of contracts from day-to-day business relationships up to major projects, and have expertise in IT contracts, joint ventures, collaboration and partnership agreements, public-private projects, agency and distribution agreements, supply chain agreements and franchising

The role

We are recruiting for a 2-6 YR PQE lawyer to support the Head of Emergency Services on governance, police advisory and policy matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will support work for police clients where the firm provides in-house services where access to swift, and accurate advice is required by senior officers and members of the client executive team.
  • The role will require a confident self-starter, who has the necessary gravitas and practical approach to deal with senior personnel in a calm and pragmatic manner on what are often high profile and complex issues
  • The role will require some non-legal activities assisting clients with implementation of government policy, strategy and managing major projects
  • You will be expected to advise on police powers and vires in relation to specific activity. This will include advice on police statutes and regulation, NPCC guidance and delegated duties
  • You will be required to advice on governance matters implementation of national and regional projects and policy matters

The person specification
  • 2- 6 years PQE
  • Experience in police law and providing in-house services will be an advantage
  • Good presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel to in person meetings to suit client requirements.
  • Conscientious, hardworking, with developed critical thinking abilities and excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines, targets and client protocols while maintaining high standards in terms of accuracy and quality
