The Department

Our Casualty team provides a full, expert service in defending public and employers' liability claims, particularly workplace, public sector and claims against the emergency services. Weightmans' team is second-to-none in providing defendant litigation services in these specialist areas. We operate on a national basis with dedicated workplace, public and police teams

The role

Weightmans is currently recruiting for two Solicitors 2-4 YR PQE to join our Casualty team in Birmingham.

  • Handle a caseload of local authority claims, including social care cases, and assist partners and other fee earners on larger social care cases and with other types of local authority or injury litigation work.
  • Understand and advise on new and developing areas of law such as the evolving duty of care, human rights, defamation and data protection/information law.
  • The role will involve reviewing large volumes of documents, summarising them, preparing them for disclosure to other parties in litigation, and reporting on liability, value and tactics
  • Achieve set hours and billing targets
  • Meet deadlines, and comply with procedural requirements from clients and the firm
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

The person specification
  • Previous experience of managing a personal injury caseload and preferably social care experience, although not essential
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration
  • Excellent collaborative and team working skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
