Our national Healthcare team provides both a defendant claims handling service for clinicians and NHS employers against claims for injury resulting from negligent clinical care, and also an advisory service offering advice and support to all levels of the NHS - providers and commissioners - including NHS Foundation Trusts (acute and mental health providers) as wells as CCGs. Our clinical negligence team has many years in-depth experience in defending clinical negligence claims. Our approach is meticulous, based on a deep understanding of the medical environment and NHS procedures, and focused on the facts and evidence presented in each case. Our advisory team advises a number of other specialist NHS bodies and Regulators on a wide range of healthcare law issues including statutory obligations, functions and powers of NHS bodies as well as Governance and Risk Management. We also have extensive experience of advising and representing the NHS at inquests and advising on ethical issues including consent and confidentiality. |
Main duties and responsibilities
- Manage own caseload of clinical negligence claims on behalf of the NHS, including but not limited to pre-action and fixed-fees
- Assist other case handlers with clinical negligence and personal injury cases
- Perform general file management duties
- Act upon incoming and produce outgoing documents such as letters, reports and emails
- Liaise with claimants, solicitors, clients and other parties
- Achieve set financial and chargeable hours targets
- Work in accordance with Lexcel and other internal compliance procedures
- Work in tune with Weightmans’ values
- Work in accordance with client SLAs
- Complete MI as and when required
- Perform other general case handling duties as appropriate
