The Department

Our Marketing team is made up of many teams that work together to support Weightmans' marketing processes. The teams include: business development; communications; CRM; events; profile raising; and projects. 

We are now embarking on the next stage of growth which will see the firm double turnover in the next two years. Having made seven exceptional new hires within the Business Development team in 2017 we now look to add two further specialist New Business Managers, one of which will be serving the Owner Managed Business and the Private Client segments.

The role

Primary objectives

  • Provide new business development support to Partners in allocated client segment to drive profitable growth and revenue generation in line with the overall financial objectives of the firm.

  • Provide practical assistance to the Partners, so key business development opportunities with targets can be exploited.

  • Identify and develop opportunities for new work, whether that be from new prospects in existing sectors, or new market sectors.

Key responsibilities

  • With dotted line reporting to the Client Segment Head of Owner Managed Business/ Private Client, work closely with them and their lead Partners to implement and manage agreed new business development initiatives, for example:

    • Preparation of client segment business plans

    • New Product Development

    • Targeting new clients, including identification, research, prioritisation and conversion

    • New business pipeline, working with Partners to ensure pipeline targets are effectively identified, prioritised and revenue is generated

    • Lead generation activity, evaluatingopportunities and focusing on the most profitable opportunities

    • Identifying growth opportunities within market sectors or regions.

  • Introduce measures to monitor the effectiveness of all new business development activity.

  • Support the Bids team with knowledge of prospects and markets for tenders, pitches and presentations for relevant client segment.

  • Provide coaching/mentoring support for Partners on new business development and sales activity and identify where there are training needs.

  • Work on behalf of the firm to develop links with external organisations who are potential introducers, referrers or clients.

  • Work closely with the wider Marketing team using client and market insights to develop campaigns which engage prospects, enhance the market positioning and reputation of the client segment and lead to profitable new business revenue.

  • Capture and document learnings from new business activities and initiatives and ensure share across Marketing team and segments to enhance future activities

The person specification

Key skills & experience

  • At least four years business development experience in a business to business services environment, including a minimum of two years in professional services.

  • A proven track record of developing new business.

  • Strong analytical skills. Commercially aware and astute.

  • A self-starter, who can work on own initiative and is proactive in developing ideas and solutions.

  • Well developed project and time management skills plus organisational skills.

  • Well developed persuading and influencing skills, with the ability to manage at a senior level without having direct line responsibility.

  • Confident, assertive and resilient.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).

  • Flexible – the role will be a mix of internal support to Partners and client facing activity so travel across Weightmans offices and to client offices will be required.

  • The role will be based in Liverpool.
