The Department

Our Information Systems team is made up of many teams that work together to support Weightmans' information systems and infrastructure. The teams include: development; operations; project services; and support.

The role

Weightmans has an ever-growing need for management information. This information is utilised both within the firm and by our clients. The firm has recognised the need to enhance the existing Data Services function in order to prepare for future demands.

 

The successful candidate must possess strong end-to-end SQL Server skills to support the team in the deployment of data cubes from the data warehouse. In addition to the development of analysis services objects an understanding of integration services and reporting services is important.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Data Architect will be an integral part of the Data Services team and will be responsible for the firm’s data strategy.   This will include:  

  • Responsibility for data quality, standards and governance across the firm
  • Liaison across the business to establish and understand data requirements and promote confidence in the firm’s data quality
  • Improve processes to ensure efficiency and consistent reporting and analysis
  • Develop database solutions to store and retrieve company information analysing client operations, applications, and programming; reviewing objectives with clients; evaluating current systems;
  • Install and configure information systems to ensure functionality and efficient interaction between systems
  • Analyse structural requirements for new software and applications
  • Migrate data from legacy systems to new solutions
  • Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts
  • Optimise new and current database systems
  • Maintains database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems; calculating optimum values for parameters; evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases; completing maintenance; answering user questions.
  • Define security and backup procedures
  • Coordinate with Data Services department to identify future needs and requirements

The person specification
  • Proven work experience as a Data Architect, Data Scientist, Data Analyst or similar role
  • In-depth understanding of database structure principles, data modelling and database design
  • Experience gathering and analysing system requirements
  • Knowledge of data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Expertise in SQL
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau and R)
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • BSc in Computer Science or relevant field
