The Department

The Dispute Resolution department of Wilkin Chapman is recognised and recommended by the Legal 500 for its excellence. Serving the Firm’s nationwide clients, it is a busy, dynamic and outcome-driven department.  Team-members have expertise across the range of dispute types, from property and commercial matters to contentious probate and privacy, and provide support across the Firm’s practice areas. The department’s clients are both substantial businesses and private individuals, and it acts for claimants and defendants alike. The team prides itself on a friendly and approachable nature, the quality of its advice and representation and the flexible and commercial approach it takes to resolving its client’s disputes.

The Role

The successful candidate will be working alongside colleagues to provide assistance on a wide range of disputes (both litigated and non-litigated), including commercial and property issues, as they build up experience and knowledge in dispute resolution work.

It is hoped that the role will develop over time and that the successful candidate will progress to taking responsibility for their own caseload.

Duties will include
  • Taking responsibility for files/parts of files as requested by the Head of Department/Solicitor, conducting all matters in the client’s best interests and using information technology to produce documents as appropriate.
  • Maintaining time recording on client matters on a daily basis and submitting completed forms to the Accounts Department.
  • Regularly updating clients as to the current situation of their case.
  • Dealing with routine and difficult enquiries from telephone callers and clients effectively and efficiently and ensuring that all client complaints are dealt with both professionally and promptly to the complete satisfaction of the client.
  • Utilising Word Processing System/Computer system to produce all documents and letters.
  • Assisting with duties including the physical condition, including updating filing, of each file in your designated group, and progressing according to timetable.
  • Using training provided by colleagues and partners responsible for the department to acquire knowledge of General Litigation and utilising that training in the work place.
  • Attending appointments for new clients and meeting with existing clients where necessary.
Qualifications
  • Paralegal experience, preferably within a Dispute Resolution department, is preferred but not essential.
