The role

This role is covering maternity leave until October 2021.

The role involves working under the IT training manager to deliver IT Training and General Training Support to all end users whenever required. It is an opportunity to use your IT knowledge and training / support background within a law firm to make a positive impact particularly during these difficult times where majority are working remotely.

What the role entails:

Providing IT training and technical support to staff at all levels as follows:


• Delivering induction training to new staff on all IT systems.
• Delivering ongoing internal training to staff on new IT systems and upgrades as well as refresher training sessions.
• Testing, researching and trialling various programs or applications in preparation for training or user awareness
• Assisting in the creation and updates of user guides for firm IT systems.
• Organising training sessions as appropriate
• Assisting in assessing IT training needs for partners and staff based on support queries coming into the Service Desk System
• Design and writing of training sessions and supporting materials
• Delivery of training to groups, one to one and conduct demonstrations online or physically in meeting rooms as and when required
• Whilst in lockdown and where possible, offer training in a flexible way at the user’s convenience, at users' desk or outside core hours where necessary – e.g.
• Ensuring feedback gathered from users following training is logged and reported
• Set up training schedule using the WS Users database training section to provide an accurate log of all training delivered, update when completed or cancelled and user email feedback sent
• Ensuring the learning environment is appropriate to learner’s needs
• Assisting the IT Training Manager in the development of course materials for various applications

End User Support and Project Support

• Acknowledging and actioning service desk tickets and requests assigned to or picked up by the trainers e.g. document troubleshooting and reformatting issues and or ‘how to queries relating to bespoke and standard software issues and updating the tickets when completed
• Assisting the wider IT team where training support and delivery is necessary as part of overall project roll out
• Carrying out floor walking to address ad hoc and post system rollout queries

  • Reporting issues and Liaising with third party suppliers where appropriate to aid the investigation of system issues

• In coordination with the IT Training Manager, to undertake other duties as deemed appropriate by Project Manager or Head of IT where a training plan and delivery is required

Current Pandemic Situation and How the Team Works

Following Government Guidance which came into force from 5 November 2020, the firm has adapted a new policy of allowing anyone to work from home unless your work cannot be effectively done from home in which case people can come into the office (subject to booking a space using our Work-in-the-office System).
As for IT, we have team members coming into the office (we try and have at least one person in each day), travelling off-peak where possible in order to do work from the office where necessary – e.g. Setting up of Zoom Rooms for lawyer/client online meetings in the office or Laptop deployment. Where a new starter is office-based, a trainer is required to come into the office to show any training in relation to use of equipment such as MFDs for copy/scanning tasks, but majority of the training induction can be done remotely from your own PC/Laptop at home.

Candidate specification

Candidate Skills

• Proven 4-5 years IT Training of which previous solid experience of working within a Law Firm is a must covering the following:
• Document Management Systems background - WS currently uses Netdocuments, though any DMS system experience is useful
• Practice Management system – WS currently uses Envision, 3E experience is a plus
• Expert/Advanced technical knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications
• The ability to communicate professionally at all levels within the firm
• Proven experience in delivering training at both an individual and group level
• Comfortable delivering training over a video conferencing platform – Zoom or Teams
• Other applications Time Recording and PDF manipulation (See list of applications at the end of this sheet)

Must be able to demonstrate the following

• Being a quick learner
• Able to work without direct supervision
• Proactive and innovative in their approach to training and support
• Demonstrate being a team player and work alongside others
• Able to give hands on training and support as and when required - face to face or remotely using Zoom or Microsoft Teams
• Ability to work under pressure when dealing with high call training request volumes
