The role

The analyst’s role will be to analyse specific parts of the firm’s business processes with a view to improving efficiency . This will involve studying a variety of business requirements, workflows and the firm’s existing technological systems. The analyst will make recommendations to the Head of IT or IT Programme Manager on technical development projects that will improve business efficiency in line with the firm’s overall business strategy.

Our IT Programme Manager oversees the projects arm of IT which spans business systems development & integration, infrastructure & information security projects. We are looking for someone to work alongside the Head of IT and IT Programme Manager, to help facilitate improvements in the utilisation of systems, implement best practice and further explore the application of existing (or new) tools and technologies to improve user experience and efficiency.

The Business Systems Analyst will also work closely with our internal developers for the development of bespoke solutions or tools necessary to automate, integrate, support and meet internal business and/or clients’ needs.

This position will suit a solutions-focused individual with strong experience in process improvement and good technical skills. He or she will be comfortable leading all aspects of technical & process delivery.

Main responsibilities

  • Proactive Business Analysis planning to determine activities necessary to identify and define the relevant stakeholders for specific projects or business objectives
  • Engaging with the relevant stakeholders across the business (legal or business services) for requirements gathering and documentation
  • Working with the IT Programme Manager on prioritisation of business requirements across the firm
  • Managing and capturing the requirements log throughout the design phase of any relevant project.
  • Producing As-Is and To-Be process maps including any workflows that require technical data mapping
  • Determine the effectiveness of proposed solutions including the identification of any associated risks (i.e.Cost/Benefit & Impact analysis)  including cost and risk avoidance, financial & non-financial benefits
  • Support the firm’s current business systems, including TRE 3E and where necessary, run workshops to advise on best technology to use which may include making the most of existing technology or IT platforms, or a new/recommended solution
  • Producing any non-technical documents for the end-users/trainers
  • Working with Trainers on End User training
  • Facilitating and running UAT Testing
  • Business Project/Workflow documentation

IT Department Structure

The Business Systems Analyst will be part of a small but growing IT Team headed by the firm’s IT Partner. The team is divided into three sub-teams – (1) Systems Development & Design, (2) Infrastructure, Telecoms, Networking & Information Security and (3) Service Delivery which includes both Service Desk and IT Training.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail


  • Substantial business analysis experience ideally in a law firm environment, minimum 5 years
  • Experience in legal business processes a plus - e.g. conveyancing, immigration
  • Experience in using project management or process mapping tools
  • Good working knowledge of SQL, Microsoft Office including MS Projects
  • Excellent application and back-end knowledge of TRE 3E a plus
  • Good general knowledge of the Legal Tech market and trends
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office , ideally Microsoft Office Specialist certified
  • Any CBAP or BCS Business Analysis Diploma or equivalent
  • Prince II ideal but not essential
